Art classes for all ages

The Quincy Art Center offers classes for all ages, beginning February 22 at the Art Center, 1515 Jersey St.

The 2010 schedule is:

Pint Sized Picassos:
Pre-schoolers will spend time drawing, painting, sculpting, storytelling, and exercising their imagination through other creative activities. Classes are taught by Miss Rachel. Friday’s 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. and are $30 per session. Session 3: Feb 19 – March 12; Session 4: Mar 19 – Apr 16; and Session 5: Apr 23 – May 14. Snack is included in the cost.

Story Book Stew:
Kindergarten through 3rd grade children are invited to explore their wild side through paint, printmaking, sculpture, and costuming. All projects will be inspired by the illustrations in Maurice Sendak’s, “Where the Wild Things Are.” Miss Jen will teach this 6 week course on Monday’s from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. beginning February 22. Cost is $45.

Muddie Buddies:
Every Monday from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Miss Jenna will help kindergarten through 3rd grade children create clay masterpieces, which will be fired, and then glazed or painted. This course runs from February 22 – March 29. Cost is $50.

After School Program:
Kindergarten through 3rd grade children meet with Miss Rachel on Tuesday’s, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. to learn a variety of art processes and work with various media to develop their craftsmanship, team work and problem solving skills. The cost is $30 per session and includes a snack. Session 3: Feb 23 – Mar 16; Session 4: Mar 23 – Apr 13; Session 5: Apr 20 – May 11.

Here Comes Peter Cotton Tail:
Children ages 3 through 3rd grade can join Peter Cottontail at the Art Center for a morning of Easter fun; making their own baskets, a floppy eared bunny, and tie dying Easter Eggs. There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt at the park. This class is Saturday, March 27, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00. Cost is $30 and includes a snack.

Studio Drawing:
4th through 6th grade students will improve their drawing skills by studying three-dimensional shapes, complex still life scenes, and composing dynamic compositions. This six week course will be held on Wednesday’s 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. with Miss Jen and begins February 24. Cost is $45.

Clay Studio:
This Class is open to 4th through 6th graders who wish to improve their hand building clay skills. In this 6 week course beginning February 24, students will build their own pieces which will be fired for permanence then glazed or painted. Miss Jenna will teach this course on Wednesday’s from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. Cost is $50.

Art Club:
4th through 8th graders meet on Thursday’s, from 3:45 – 5:15 p.m. with Miss Cathy; and focus on group projects using a variety of media. The cost is $20 per session. This is a year round program.

T.G.I.T :
Teens and Adults are encouraged to join this workshop series that offers ongoing demonstrations from area artists and an opportunity to experiment with different media. The upcoming demonstration will begin February 25, with Jen Teter teaching clay basics. T.G.I.T. meets on Thursday’s, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per month.

Art Center Members may deduct $5 per class. These programs have been supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, an agency of the State.
